The Lindenwood University Theatre Department will present its first production of the fall 2010 semester, the acclaimed Steel Magnolias, at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 9-11 and 16-18 at Lindenwood’s Bezemes Family Theater.
Tickets range from $10 to $18 and are available at the Lindenwood Box Office, 636-949-4433 or online at www.lindenwood.edu/center. The Bezemes Family Theater and the Lindenwood Box Office are located in the J. Scheidegger Center for the Arts at 2300 West Clay St. in St. Charles, Mo., just west of First Capitol Drive.
Set in a small Louisiana town, Steel Magnolias follows six women as they come and go through Truvy’s hair salon, where the entire play takes place. With wit, humor, warmth, and friendship, the six deal with love, loss, life, death, and their own friendship as they engage each other with hysterical, neighborly gossip. Written by Robert Harling, the play debuted Off-Broadway in 1987 and was adapted by Harling for a hit movie that starred Shirley MacLaine, Sally Field, Olympia Dukakis, Julia Roberts, Dolly Parton, and Daryl Hannah.
“I think it is wonderful for our students to get the opportunity to do Steel Magnolias,” said Nick Kelly, the play’s director. “I couldn’t be more thankful for the brilliant cast of women that I am working with.”
The Lindenwood cast includes Marlea Jenkins, Shannon Daugherty, Nicole Dele, Colleen Kelly, Becca Helms, and Emily Heitmeyer. Assistant director is David Moreshead, Natalie Smith is stage manager, and Beth Wickenhauser is assistant stage manager. Set and lighting design are by Tim Poertner. The costume designer is Donna Northcott, and the sound designer is Sarah Thompson.
