Join Delia Schindler and the Die Laughing Theater for a new dinner theater show, "They Call Me Mr. Bunker," where actors bring back the hilarious couple Edith and Archie Bunker. The show will take place on Friday, Sept. 10 at the St. Peters Community & Arts Center.
Edith and Archie will take you on another hilarious adventure with this new show where the couple is faced with a dilemma—Archie has to learn computer skills or else he will lose his job at the loading dock. Archie enters his personal information in the computer and becomes a victim of identity theft. Meanwhile, Edith hosts The Neighborhood Association Meeting where neighbors gather to discover who stole Archie’s identity.
Audience participation in the show is encouraged, but not required. Tickets for the show are $28.50 per person. Price includes entertainment, salad, entrée, dessert, and iced tea. Cash bar is also available for drink purchase. Doors open at 6:30, first course is served at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 7:30 p.m.

Lindenwood University welcomed a record-breaking number of students on the first day of 2010 fall semester classes Monday, Aug. 23. The number of daytime undergraduate students, including commuters, exceeds 5,000 by a substantial margin.
“We are extremely pleased that each year more and more qualified students are selecting Lindenwood as their university,” said President James D. Evans, Ph.D. “These student counts are certainly new records and historic benchmarks for this great frontier university.”
Lindenwood anticipates continued growth along with increased student enrollment in future years. The university seeks to expand its undergraduate and graduate degree programs, as well as its online courses and doctoral program offerings.
A palpable sense of excitement can be felt on campus as Lindenwood faculty and staff welcome this year’s students and look forward to further growth and success.

The U.S. Department of Education has announced Missouri will receive a $2.1 million grant to expand the number of high-quality charter schools in Kansas City and St. Louis over the next three years.
Missouri is one of 11 states and the District of Columbia to share in the $136.1 million allocation recently announced by the Charter School Programs section of the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Innovation and Improvement. Other states receiving grants are Arkansas, California, Colorado, Georgia, Indiana, Michigan, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, South Carolina and Texas.
Secretary of Education Arne Duncan said the federal government will invest more than $256 million this year to assist in planning and implementation for public charter schools and in dissemination of successful practices.
Over the next three years, the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education will administer the grant, which aims to accomplish three key objectives – support high-performing charter schools, improve student performance and enhance the accountability of sponsoring institutions.

The O’Fallon Police Department recently conducted a LIDAR Speed Enforcement Detail on Tuesday August 24th, 2010. During this detail 12 officers were broken into 3 separate enforcement groups and sent to several residential areas in the city. These areas, along with enforcement numbers, were Sunny Ride Estates (3), Calumet Ranch (14), Cherrywood Parc (5), Fallon Parkway (15) and Twin Chimney’s (25). During this detail 62 traffic stops were conducted during the 4 hour detail and a total of 62 citations were issued, of which 61 were for speeding violations. |

The St. Charles Community College Adult Education and Literacy program has partnered with the Holy Rosary Catholic Church and School to offer a new, free English as a Second Language (ESL) class in Warrenton, Mo., beginning in September 2010.
Students are required to appear in person at Holy Rosary Catholic School in Warrenton at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, to register for classes. Classes begin Thursday, Sept. 9, and will be held every Tuesday and Thursday from 6-9 p.m. Registration will be held every Tuesday.
“We are looking forward to our new partnership with the Holy Rosary Catholic Church and School in Warrenton,” said Diane Schroeder, associate dean of extended learning. “There has been a major growth of the immigrant community needing ESL services in Warren County over the past several years, and we are happy to address that need.”
SCC offers free English as a Second Language classes at several other locations throughout St. Charles, Lincoln and Warren counties. To see a list of locations, go to www.stchas.edu/ael.

A 33-year-old convicted sex offender was apprehended after entering a St. Charles-area middle school earlier this week.
According to Hardin Middle School Principal Ed Gettemeier, the man walked into the school at 10:15 a.m. Monday. The man, identified as Donald Tate Jr., spent five years in jail following a conviction for statutory sodomy in 2004 in St. Louis City.
A school employee confronted Tate after entered the building. Tate was asked to leave, but did not. A school resource officer was called to the area and detained Tate until police arrived.
