Don Graveman and his wife Dianna didn't quite know what they were getting themselves into when they committed to writing a book on the history of Missouri wine country.

Several years ago Bob Barczewski and Mark Platt put their goals and their game together and came up with "Rally Tennis for Cancer Care," which helps cancer patients pay their personal bills.
The group's recent fundraiser at Frontenac Tennis Club attracted about 150 tennis players and raised $30,000 for the Siteman Cancer Center Division of Oncology at Washington University and Barnes-Jewish Hospital.

A Kirkwood chemistry teacher has received the highest honor a teacher can receive from the State of Missouri.
Wednesday morning, Robert Becker learned he was named Missouri Teacher of the Year for 2010-2011 by the Missouri Department of Education.
Students learned of the good news during a school-wide video announcement.

A St. Louis entrepreneur known for nostalgic enterprises has taken on another project — reopening the 101-year-old Goldenrod Showboat, which shut down in 2001 in St. Charles.
However, Steve DeBellis, who publishes a monthly Globe-Democrat throwback newspaper and has revived defunct local beer brands, must first deal with another challenge.

Attorney General Chris Koster has created a task force to recommend changes to Missouri's laws against domestic violence.
Koster said Wednesday that Missouri's legal framework for domestic violence cases is 30 years old, and it's time to evaluate how well it is working today.

Edward Jones, Scottrade, Touchette Regional Hospital and U.S. Cellular have stepped up their hiring and will be interviewing at the Jobnewsstl.com Career Fair from 10am to 3pm at the Doubletree Westport Hotel at 1973 Craigshire.

A mayoral pay raise of almost 13 percent was approved Tuesday night by the City Council, a day before the deadline set by the city charter.
The increase, to $70,000 from $62,000, will take effect after the April election. Incumbent Patti York plans to seek a fourth term then; state Rep. Sally Faith also may run for mayor.
