St. Charles council votes to boost mayor's pay [Post Dispatch] PDF Print E-mail

A mayoral pay raise of almost 13 percent was approved Tuesday night by the City Council, a day before the deadline set by the city charter.

The increase, to $70,000 from $62,000, will take effect after the April election. Incumbent Patti York plans to seek a fourth term then; state Rep. Sally Faith also may run for mayor.

On May 15 of 2010, hundreds of volunteers from churches throughout the area came together within the community. They were dedicated to a task that would make a difference in the lives of many. As they focused on the tasks at hand they worked in a united effort on 140 service projects for neighbors as well as nonprofit organizations.

Would you like to be involved in the 2011 project? Representatives of churches and nonprofits within the St. Charles County and Metro St. Louis area are invited to discover more about Serve Day 2011.

Veteran honored at St. Peters board meeting [Suburban Journals] PDF Print E-mail

Ray Eilmann, a World War II veteran who helped create the Veterans Memorial in front of St. Peters City Hall, was remembered during the Board of Aldermen meeting Thursday night.

Eilmann died Aug. 19 at age 88.

The St. Charles Police and Fire Departments and your City Officials welcome and encourage you to participate in our neighborhood sponsored celebration of St. Charles Night Out. St. Charles Night Out is a yearly festival where neighbors connect with one another.

The Night Out event in New Town will feature appearances by McGruff the Crime Dog, the Balloon Guy, fire apparatus and police canine at Rue Royale at the Grand Canal. Dan Kuse & Double D will be performing 6:00pm — 8:00pm. Potluck Dinner — Bring a dish to share… hot dogs, chips, hamburgers, cookies, brownies, cupcakes, whatever treat you like!

The series will include performances by a variety of musicians from across the United States, as well as local performers and SCC musicians. All performances are free and open to the public.

Gov. Jay Nixon today ordered U.S. and state flags to half-staff Tuesday at all government buildings in Lincoln and Warren counties to honor the memory of Hawk Point Police Chief Paul J. Fricke.

Fricke, 37, of Troy, Mo., was killed Friday while on duty in a one-car crash on Highway 47 outside Hawk Point.

The O’Fallon City Council on Thursday voted unanimously to lower property tax and sewer insurance rates.

The council set the city’s 2010 property tax rate at 0.4838 cents per $100 assessed valuation, a decrease of about 21 percent from the 2009 rate of 0.6164 cents per $100. The owner of a $100,000 house would pay less than $92 in 2010 city property taxes, a decrease from $117.08 in 2009.

If you have always wanted to learn Spanish, Conversational Spanish 101 at St. Peters’ Community & Arts Center is the perfect class for you. This informative eight-week class will be held on Thursdays, beginning Sept. 30 from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Learn to order at your favorite Mexican restaurant, communicate with Spanish-speaking friends, or communicate easily during a trip south of the border. This class will assist you in developing the necessary vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, and conversation skills to effectively communicate in those pursuits.

Each lesson in Conversational Spanish 101 will include study guides and practice conversations to develop your skills. All materials are provided.

The fee for the class is $100 for St. Peters residents and $110 for general public. St. Peters Community & Arts Center is located at 1035 St. Peters-Howell Road.

Missouri now using federal vehicle database before issuing documents to owners [KPLR] PDF Print E-mail

Missouri has started using a federal database that could reduce the chance of people getting a title for a stolen vehicle.

Missouri this week began cross-checking applications for vehicle titles with information stored in the National Motor Vehicle Title Information System.
